5 out of 5 stars LG HDD player   December 28, 2009

This HDD player + freeview is very easy to use once installed. Programming it to record programmes onto the HDD from freeview can be done just by pressing one button. The picture quality is excellant. We particularly like the easy to view recorded programmes menu that shows the programmes in picture file boxes. Once viewed the watched programmes are deleted easily in seconds.

5 out of 5 stars Decent all-in-one   December 14, 2009

If you're looking to save some space under your tv then the HR400 does a good job cramming a lot of technology into one box.

Pros

- It's possible to watch one channel whilst another is recording (so long as your tv also has inbuilt freeview).
- Only machine I could find that coupled HDD recording with Blu-ray functionality
- Decent built quality and sleek design

Cons

- Blu-ray movies take longer to load than DVDs (this is a problem with the format not the machine!)

5 out of 5 stars Does what I want   September 15, 2009

I was reluctant to buy this item, given the mixed reviews. Well, I liked it very much. First, when you record on the HDD you can deselect video mode and watch something different on the TV (utilizing the TV tuner). The dvd play back picture/ sound are fantastic. The menus are fairly easy to navigate through. There is an option for software updates, so I presume some minor glitches will be sorted out in the future.

4 out of 5 stars Misinformed   September 8, 2009

I purchased the LG over the Sony because it puported to have a twin tuner. This turned out to be incorrect so I returned it as I have a Bravia TV, which talks to the Sony player.
Other than that it seems a good product.

3 out of 5 stars LG HR400 mixed feelings   September 9, 2009

I bought this box of tricks to replace a number of standalone boxes. Overall I am pleased but have a couple of reservations. After setting up the preferences to NOT show subtitles, they come on automatically when recording and then you have to go into setup again to cancel this. You can stop subtitles without going into set-up, but every time you change channel they come back.
I'm sure this is a bug, but not sure how to overcome it.
You cannot change channel whilst recording a programme which is quite annoying.
Other than that, the set-up was quite straightforward. You-Tube installation is very easy to my wireless router.
