First review of this new tv anywhere on the web! April 23, 2009 N. Barter (uk) 166 out of 168 found this review helpful
The first thing I notice is the improved design. I was slighty put off but the design of the 555xv series, with the speakers looking like a bit of an add on. They've added a fading grey line, which adds a bit of class to the tv. (see badly taken attached photo!)
Very easy to set up, so easy my technologically inept wife could attach the stand and tune in the freeview channels! This model has resolution +, which after seeing what upscaling freeview and dvd boxes do, I was quite sketical about. It "allows your LCD TV to display standard definition images at near high definition" according to the Toshiba website. Well, put it this way, I'm not planning to get sky HD anymore!
The blacks are very good and autoview is a nice addition so that you don't have to change the contrast etc if watching a dark movie late in the evening. The main reason that I went for the 37 not the 32 was Dolby® Digital Plus. I have 7.1 with a specialist decoder to create a home cinema experience. I tested the sound coming directly from the sky box verses from via the tv and was impressed on the extra surround sound generated. Can't wait to watch my new THX versions of Star Wars to hear what it does.
I'm slighty disapointed in the small size of manual, although you can download a in-depth version. Also, that no cables/adapters are included, but that's just the way things go. It's good that you can turn off the glowing "Toshiba" sign on the bottom of the tv, and nice that you have a full-power-down button to save those penny's.
The menu system is straight-forward, hiding the advanced options unless you want to adjust them. I also like the way that when you - for example - adjust the contrast, the main menu screen reduces to the bottom corner, so that you can see how the whole picture changes with each degree of adjustment.
Overall very impressed for the amount of money spent and would recommend to anyone wanting to get a tv in this price range.
Well worth your cash! June 10, 2009 Mr. A. R. L. Barber (London, UK) 123 out of 125 found this review helpful
Wow is my first word for this review, I got to say that I was slightly unsure if I had made the right choice on this TV as I have been a Samsung fan for many years (well.. 6yrs to be exact!)
When I got this TV today (thats 1 day after ordering) I was amazed at how light and lovely it looked.
I managed to work out the stand and then got it set-up and tuned in, This took around 10mins total time and was easy.
First thing I noticed was the picture on the Freeview, its alot better than my 32' Samsung HD Ready TV that I have had for just under 2years now. The picture seems crisper and brighter than I have had to deal with before.
Then I clicked the guide button, some of you may not think this is a feature worth writing about but I have to disagree that some inbuilt Freeview guides are rubbish. This TV has a awesome guide that takes up all the screen and shows you on a proper timeline when and what is on.
Once I booted up my PS3 and changed the setting from 1080i to 1080p I was amazed at how crisp the text looked, Then I watched the opening scene from The Dark Knight and was in love with the clear picture.
I have only had the TV a day but already all my fears have been put to one side, its a great TV and for this price I would recommend it!

Easy set up ang good to look at. Picture crystal clear on normal sky. Had an 100hz tv last time and cant tell the difference. Very good value for money with all the features you get. Would recommend to anyone.

This televison is an absoulute steal, the picture qaulity is brilliant and so is the sound quality. The resoulution + (plus) seem's to work wonder's on standard picture quality, it is literally as good as H.D quality. I would highly recomend this television to anybody who want's an expert quality t.v at a Knock down price. So go on go and grab yourself a deal I tell u now that you won't be disapointed. So many pro's and absoulutly no con's!
great value for the price August 19, 2009 Chris Charman (Buckinghamshire, England) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
A great buy for the money. Good picture on HD and it upscales SD well. Easy to set up and lots of tweaks to get it right; the online manual is very helpful to sort these aspects out. The sound is better than i expected given other reviews that were less than positive on this point. A very good product
